An other day out of the house…

Getting out of the house, was just what I needed today. I spent a short time at the barn with the horses. I just love to watch them do their thing. It’s unbearably hot outside, from all the rain we’ve had, over the past couple of days. The horses were sweating bullets from the high humidity. All of them, looking as though they’d rather I leave them alone. ha ha! Oh well! To bad for them. Having to entertain my self has become a daily chore. It’s so much easier to know exactly, what you’re going to do from day-to-day. My physical limitations are still challenging, so I  wasn’t going to catch any of the horses and put halters on them. All I need, is for one of them to put me back in the hospital. I wanted to though! However, I did take the iPhone with me so I could snap a few shots of their lazy existence.

Mouse is always the first one to meet me at the gate. He knows, I have something special just for him. Isn’t he, to cute?

Everyday, I quarter an apple and take it out to the barn. They all love apples. Before Mouse gets his piece of apple the other horses begin making their way to the gate. Jerzey is always the next in line. She can’t stand to be left out. Handsome creeps up alongside her, and pushes her out-of-the-way. He wants to be sure he gets his delightful handout too! Handsome doesn’t care who stands next to him. He’s been around long enough to know, he won’t miss out. Jewels brings up the rear, and eases her way over, along side of Handsome. She still has her reservations, about how the other horses are going to react from her presence. Jewels is very polite.

It’s not to long, before Jerzey starts moving everyone out of her space. Jerzey is like a person who requires more attention than others. She speaks jealousy in volumes. She can’t stand for the other horses to take up to much of her time and space. She really loves having her chest and withers scratched, so she won’t tolerate the others for long periods of time. After Jerzey says, all she needs to say, Mouse is back out in left field. He’s become lowest on the pecking order, again. Awe! Poor poor, Mouse! Doesn’t he look like he just lost his best friend?

I began to check out the horses for possible injuries. No doubt, when you have horses, they always seem to get injured when you least expect it. I’m happy to announce, today, wasn’t one of those days. I walked around awhile longer, and checked fences and gates that may need mending. There was nothing out of the ordinary, every thing was in place, and it was time for me to make an exit. I was feeling tired and out of breath. I took a few more pictures on my way out and slowly walked to the house.

I found my way in to the backroom and sat down at my desk, uploaded all the pictures and wrote this post. Having not felt my best, in a couple of weeks, I’d been procrastinating about making reservations for a hotel. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make a 3 hour trip to Austin on August 2,2013. Some friends of ours belong to the “Clinton Anderson No Worries Club” and have extra tickets to see the famed clinician. They had graciously, invited my husband and I to go with them. We gladly accepted the offer, and I made our reservations today. I’m so excited about getting to see Clinton Anderson in action. There’s nothing better than spending a weekend out of town, with the things you love the most. Good friends and horses! To “God” be thankful for all you have!

  1. Nice story on your ponies and just how well you know them, it seems they know you well also 🙂 I really like people who love animals like you do, part of the family, not just a pet. Sometimes I feel God gave man animals for many reasons, food of course is one but I think He had other reasons also.

I keep a place for you in my daily prayers to get better as soon as possible back to 100% and able to make your horses happy by giving you a genial pleasant ride to spend time together as one letting them serve you as they best.

Thank you, sir. Horses truly are one of Gods masterpieces. They bring much joy and happiness to our lives. I appreciate the prayers. That’s something we could all do for those in need. Best regards, Susan
