Jewels: Feeling Confident

Jewels and I have been riding everyday this week. We’re not leaving the premises. Bonding more and more each day. She’s not even exhibiting the buddy sour problem we have had in the past. It’s not perfect, yet. I feel pretty confident, it will go away eventually. I don’t even have to lunge her any longer. I step on the trailer, mount from the side and off we go. A nice slow and easy walk around the pasture to start. She’s easy going and listens for my cues. We’ve been working on a slow daisy clipping trot. Her head is still a little higher than I’d like it to be. Though, I’m not fond of that low, dragging their nose in the dirt look. I hate what they’ve done to the Western Pleasure horse.

One day soon, I’m going to be able to get her into a lope. I’m just not ready for that. I firmly believe, she’s not either. Baby steps. I’ve been working on myself as well. Trying to maintain better seat controls. Staying centered and balanced at the walk and trot. Rotating my pelvis to a stop and not asking her with my hands. That’s a difficult thing to learn again. My equilibrium isn’t all that great any more. It’s getting better with practice. Before you know it, we’ll be ready for the next step. My next goal, is to ride out away from the house. Until next time. Happy horsing around!

Baby steps are the best steps! Take your time now, and everything else will be easier later. So nice to hear you enjoying yourself!

  2. Good for you both! Confidence!
