Jewels: Learning to be patient.

Jewels and I have been inseparable for the last couple of weeks. She has gotten so much better about everything. I’m still having the usual separation issues, but I’m starting to think, it’s going to take much more time than I realized. She’s not a special case. I’ve heard so many other people complain about the same problems. If I turn the other two out on pasture and leave Jewels up, she still gets fractious. There are days it drives me crazy.

My new plan for her started on Sunday. I put all three of them in a pen together and worked them at liberty. After I worked them and got all their attention, I cut Jewels out of the herd and let her rest on the other side of the pen. I repeated it one more time. All I was asking of her to do was, realize there’s not as much work to be done if they’re not together. Mission accomplished. My next goal, is to rest her further and further from the herd each day. Wish me luck!

She was still looking for the other horses, but she was reasonably quiet about it.
