A new look for her bedroom.

My grand-daughter, as thoughtful as she is, didn’t want anything for Christmas. “I don’t need anything, Grandma”.  I, however, thought she needed something special. My husband and I agreed we would re-do her bedroom for Christmas. Of course, Makayla was all for a change. She’ll be 15 years old in February. It’s time for a more grown up look. We sat down and looked at our options. At first she wanted to go with Realtree Snow Camo. How ever, she wanted a turquoise blue ceiling and stark white walls.

After discussing her other choices, decided the camo pattern wouldn’t be a good choice and limit her decorating style. Makayla settled on black and white. It was easier to tie in the turquoise. She finally chose a nice pattern. It was time to prep the room to be painted. What a mess. The whole house was up-side down from the clutter. Makayla and grandpa worked for a week getting it paint ready. They had to tape and bed the entire room. Re-do the window seals and quarter-rounds on the base-boards. They put up a brand new door. They sanded and spent a few days painting. The work is finished. Now it’s time for the finishing touches.

It was ready to decorate. We picked-up a bedding set at Anna’s Linens. Bought black valances, black panels and white sheers to go behind them. We also purchased a turquoise throw rug to tie in the ceiling color. 007

Makayla asked if she could put up some drawings her Dad drew in 2009. I thought it was a great idea. Now, how do I display them well. I bought 3 matching black frames and matted them on red card stock for the back-ground. I think they turned out real well. One wall is ready to decorate.

Next project: decorating the other wall. To be continued!
