I was feeling a bit under the weather on Saturday. I wasn’t going to waste the sunshine and cooler temperatures. I rode Jerzey. It was the first time, I’d been on a horse since my accident in June. What a joy she was to ride. The perfect topping for a cool sunny afternoon. We may several loops around the exercise pen. Did a few maneuvers I taught her months ago. Side-passed the entire length of the pen in both directions. Did a few roll-backs on the fence. It was like she was ridden yesterday. Both of us tired out quickly. Neither one of us are fit. haha! I left her saddled for a short time and rinsed her off.
Early Sunday afternoon was beautiful. Temps were cooler than the day before. I caught up Jewels. I brushed her off, tacked her up and lunged her in the exercise pen. Jewels motor is always running on high speed. She needs at least 20 or 30 minutes to cool her jets. After she puts her thinking cap on, it’s time to ride. It takes her a lot longer to slow down her gait. Jewels starts out quickly. I one rein stop her and repeat until she takes off at the pace I’m looking for. It doesn’t take long before she goes along slowly at the walk. The last time I rode her, we worked on bending around my legs. We picked up where we left off. She was much more responsive this time.
We walked around the pen for a half hour, bending and flexing in both directions. After having had several positive results, we quit for the day. We walked over to the barn, unmounted, dropped her reins and I rested in a chair next to her. Such a lovely horse. She lowered head, cocked her right hind leg and rested as well. Good job, Jewels.
